Gospel = The Good News of Jesus

Recap

1. The gospel changes us by filling our hearts with a hope that does not disappoint.

2. God’s grace is more than sufficient for our worst sins and toughest situations.

3. Grace is not meant to give us a license to sin, rather a life free from the power of sin.

4. Religion without a relationship never leads to true righteousness.

Today’s Point: The Christian life is impossible without the Holy Spirit.

Why is it necessary we live life in the Spirit?

1. Without the Holy Spirit We are Powerless (vs. 1-8)

Apart from the intervention of the Holy Spirit, we have no power to save ourselves or live a life that pleases God. It is the Holy Spirit that brings the power. We cannot set ourselves free.

2. Without the Holy Spirit We are Lifeless (Vs. 9-13)

It is the working of the Spirit that brings life. Jesus did not come to make bad people good, he came to make dead people alive. Without the Holy Spirit we are spiritually dead. No Spirit means no life. We must be born of the Spirit. In the end, the deeds of the flesh mean our death, but the Spirit leads to life. The Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead can surely do the same for us.

3. Without the Holy Spirit We are Fatherless (vs. 14-16)

It is the presence of the Spirit that proves we belong to Christ. It is the same Spirit that brings about our adoption into the family of God. Without the Holy Spirit we live as slaves to fear, alone and fatherless. However, if we have the Spirit, He testifies that we have a Father. He is not a distant Father, He is our Abba Father, our Dad.
